Yesterday Beller's Music of Manchester, CT, had special guest Steve Morse come in for a clinic!
Steve played through a song and talked mostly about technique and effective practicing. Steve had some volunteers come on stage to play for him. He critiqued their playing and gave them suggestions on how to become better players. This is something you don't really see in a lot of electric guitar clinics. They are usually just a shred-fest with intermittent questioning. This however was something a lot more special.
Steve was a wonderful performer and emphasized musicality over technique.
Last week's guitar festival at Hartt was a blast. I got a chance to meet some new people, study with great teachers and eat a ton of burgers.
This year was my first festival at Hartt. I got a chance to study with guitar legend Scott Tennant. What a privilege!
It was definitely helpful to get three different perspectives on my playing and repertoire. All three instructors stressed the importance of working with details while keeping the big idea of the piece alive.
The week was great and the experience will help me hit the ground running in the fall, at Hartt.
Last Tuesday, Backstage Pizza in West Hartford hosted an open mic for Music and Arts students. I had the pleasure of playing with Chris Bolton and Jon Dostuo. I also had a chance to snap some cool shots with the new camera.
